Last week I did a review of the DE version of the Lagavulin this time their normal offering:

  • Lagavulin 16yo (43%)

This was a sample I got in a sample exchange with a good friend.

Deep copper

Peat! Campfire, earthy tones. Some salt as well. Dark cherries, honey, pears coming through once the peat settles a bit. Nice complexity.

Spicy attack followed by some campfired marshmellows. Sweet liquorice with salty tones in between. Oily texture. The taste is also quit complex but the campfire does rule a bit covering some of the subtle flavours. Very good balance in smokiness and sweetness!

Medium to long, campfire keeps lingering through together with some sweetness and liquorice.

Very well balanced dram for good price. Good value for money and to be honest better than the DE version if I take into account the pricing!

Score = 85-86/100
