This time back to my favourite style of whisky lately:
- Glendronach 1994 Batch 11 (20yo), Cask no. 3386 (53,6%)
An amazing dram of a 20yo single cask Glendronach matured in PX casks.
This was again a sample but I’m sure I would like a bottle of this one!
Lovely chocolatety nose, loads of dried fruits. Whiff of earthiness, maybe some tobacco leafs even. PX sherry is clearly there.
Also some coffee is there.
Without water: again sweet chocolate and coffee notes in the beginning. Followed by a little heat (pepper, ginger?). Nice thick tears in the glass giving it a rich full body.
With water the spice is slightly toned down. Doesn’t need water in my view!
Without water: long mouthwarming finish starting spicy ending a little dry with sweet toffee and some liquorice. Again also some oak and tobacco notes.
Very nice dram with good dynamics and very good balance in sweet, spice and acidity. Clearly PX sherry giving some nice dark choco notes!
Amazing stuff and clearly another topnotch single cask by Glendronach.
Score = 90-92/100
