This time another peaty dram:

  • Call Ila 2001 – Private Collection (GM) (45%)

This whisky is an Islay, distilled on 29-08-2001, bottle on 14-04-2015. It was finished  in Hermitage Wine Casks and is lightly peated.

I’ve tasted a sample of this one.

Color

Burnished

Nose

Smoke, charcoal, fruity notes (cherries, plumbs), woody notes (oak). Medium impact.

Taste

Smooth, sweet start (sweet liquorice, dried fruits) followed by some smoke, salty bacon, tobacco. Nice complexity.

Finish

Medium to long finish with some nice salty smoke and anise. Slightly dry.

Comments

Nice peated whisky. Great finish, nice balance and complexity. Cask are only recognizable in the nose for me. The peat is more to my liking and not as heavy as the Ledaig I reviewed earlier.

Score = 84-86/100
