The next Balvenie on the table is an older release not sold anymore:

The Balvenie Madeira Cask was aged exclusively in traditional American oak whisky casks before being transferred to barrels previously used in the production of fortified Madeira wine.
I got a sample for this one which was from a bottle bottled in 2009.
Medium and balanced impact on the nose with some sweet and spice. Fruity notes (dried fruits, some tickling citrus), spicy notes (cinnamon, maybe nutmeg), some woody notes (oak). Quite complex and appealing.
Full bodied, mouth-warming with a greasy texture, quite spicy (pepper, maybe nutmeg, some vanilla). Nice complexity with some sweet raisins coming through in the end. Appealing but slightly on the hot side.
Medium and quite dry finish, which doesn’t have a load of dynamics. Quite spicy/hot followed by some nice sweetness (honey) and maybe even some liquorice. Appealing finish but not too special. Expected a bit more dynamics in the finish as it’s kind of straight forward now.
Whisky is consistent (spiciness of the nose comes through in the taste as well). Could have had a bit more dynamics on the taste but overall it has medium complexity and is pretty much matching expectations (finish could have been a bit more exciting in my view).
Again it matches the description on the label quite well.
